Tapestry Celebrates 2nd Emmy for 'Outstanding Children's Series'

New York, NY - June 17, 2008

.

In a star-studded ceremony at Lincoln Center, Tapestry International Productions was awarded an Emmy in the Outstanding Children’s Series category for “Greatest Inventions with Bill Nye.”

“Bill Nye is incredible.  It is an honor to work with him,” says Executive Producer Nancy Walzog, “the Emmy is icing on the cake.”

The series was shot in Hollywood California and posted in Tapestry’s New Jersey facility.  “Using state-of-the art green screen technology, we send Bill Nye to the moon, inside the human body and back in time,” relays Supervising Producer Karen Carlson.  “We also showcase kid inventors to see what the future holds.”

“The show is big fun.  We see how human ideas became concrete… and other molecules, as well,” adds Nye, sporting his signature lab coat and bow tie.

This is Tapestry’s third nomination for Outstanding Children’s Series and second win.  In 2004, Tapestry snagged the top prize for Discovery Channel’s daily kid series, “Assignment Discovery.”

Greatest Inentions with Bill Nye can be seen on The Discovery Channel.

Bill Nye, the Inventions Guy

New York, NY March 26, 2007 .

Tapestry is delighted to be working with Bill Nye, a.k.a. ‘The Science Guy’, on new series “Greatest Inventions with Bill Nye” for The Discovery Channel. From the wheel to the hovercraft, coins to ATM cards, this 8x60’ commission takes us through the greatest inventions in history.

Utilizing the latest in green screen and compositing technology, Tapestry was able to send Nye ‘on location’ to some far out places.  “Bill hosts the show from a variety of locations,” comments Supervising Producer Karen Carlson, “including the moon, inside the human body, and the 19th century.”

“The show is big fun. We see how human ideas became concrete… and lots of other molecules, as well,” adds Nye, sporting his signature lab coat and bow tie.

Greatest Inventions with Bill Nye is set to air in September 2007 on The Discovery Channel.

Leading with Heart: Tapestry Staffers hit the Volunteer Trail

New York, NY
March 12, 2007.

This year marks the third year that Tapestry staffers head down to Greensboro, Alabama to support “Raise the House.” With hammers swinging, paint brushes poised and brooms at the ready, this years volunteers will help build a much needed resource center for the area’s children and teens.

Lending a helping hand to causes near and dear to Tapestry’s President, Nancy Walzog, is a principal tenet of the company’s culture.  “We regularly help local seniors with light projects like window washing and yard work.”

Due to its Jersey Shore location, the company aims to be a good steward of local beaches by supporting non-profit “Clean Ocean Action.” Sponsoring bi-annual beach clean-ups helps keep the coastline free from contaminants that can harm people and wildlife.

“We share our resources, energies and spirit by reaching out to our community and beyond, but we get back so much more,” exclaims Tapestry producer and volunteer Jen Mengedoth.  Walzog wouldn’t have it any other way.

Roll out the red carpet, because Tapestry is Emmy bound again this year.  The nomination for “Assignment Discovery,” Tapestry’s daily kids show, was announced this February at the Kidscreen Summit in New York City.

Having won the award in the same category in 2004, Tapestry’s President remains humble, “There are so many fantastic kid’s shows out there.  It is an honor to be one of four recognized with the nomination.”

“Assignment Discovery” airs weekday mornings on The Discovery Channel.  Awards will be presented this June at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Tapestry’s ‘Louisa May Alcott’ up for Outstanding Supporting Actress

New York, NY February 7, 2007 .

Portraying a 19th century literary legend can be daunting, but Kera O’Bryon took it all in stride.  O’Bryon’s soulful interpretation of legendary Alcott in Tapestry’s blue chip holiday special, “Christmas and the Civil War” has earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Performer in a Children’s/Youth/Family Special.

“I am stunned and thrilled. It is so nice to be recognized,” exclaimed O’Bryon. Christmas and the Civil War tells the story of the holiday, its evolution and its meaning, through the eyes of those who helped shape it into the cornerstone American holiday. Lavish historical re-enactments shot on location in Bedford, Pennsylvania and archival material, interweave the Civil War-era holiday stories of 5 central characters, including Alcott.

Airing seasonally on Discovery HD Theater and The Discovery Channel.

Tapestry Goes Virtual with Full Mental Jacket

Los Angeles, CA January 15, 2007.

In preparation for a recent studio shoot, Tapestry commissioned design firm Full Mental Jacket to create a virtual set.

“We wanted something futuristic, almost like a spaceship, but we only needed it for a few days,” remarks Tapestry President Nancy Walzog, “Virtual was the way to go.”

Full Mental Jacket of Los Angeles, California, is a leader in the design and implementation of cutting-edge virtual environments for television.  “Collaborating with Tapestry allowed us to build a great set that was integral to the creative content of the show, not just a backdrop,” says Ronen Lasry, Full Mental Jacket’s Creative Director.

The virtual set composited with onscreen talent, while the camera was able to move within the environment, resulting in a more ‘real world’ look and feel.  “It was liberating,” adds Walzog, “I’d definitely invest in virtual again for studio shoots.” It’s not hard to imagine why, considering that ‘strike’ took all the time and energy of the flip of a switch.
